[edit]

DR WHO fans were celebrating last night as plans to scrap the Daleks were exterminated.

The robots were to be left out of the series when it returns to TV screens next year following a wrangle between the BBC and the family of the creator Terry Nation, who died in 1997.

But yesterday a compromise was finally reached.

The BBC sparked outrage when it said the Daleks would be missing from the new 13-part series. Mr Nation's estate refused permission for them to be used, complaining the BBC were planning to ruin them by making them too evil.

Antony Wainer of the Dr Who Appreciation Society, said he was "absolutely delighted" at the settlement.
