Allons-y, "let's go," to the Beaches Branch Library, Saturday, Aug. 30, for a special Dr. Who event from 1 -4 p.m. in the community room.

All Whovians and members of the Beaches are welcome to join the library staff in a celebratory afternoon for the return of the 12th doctor on television series Dr. Who, the longest running science fiction series on TV.

The Dr. Who television show follows the last of the Time Lords from planet Gallifrey, the Doctor, as he travels in time to save people, earth and other planets from catastrophe. The series started in 1963 and continues today.

The Doctor has been played by several actors, regenerating himself to come back looking differently but still the same at his core.

The event at the library offers Dr. Who trivia, which was really popular at the beginning of the summer's Comic-Con, according to Julie Rekow, head of the adult department at the library. There will also be a costume contest for those who would like to dress up as their favorite Who character or creature. Rekow said that attendees will have a chance to make Dr. Who themed crafts, such as a Sonic Screwdriver and a folding origami Tardis, which is the Doctor's time machine.

"This is a celebration of the new season," Rekow said, mentioning that the return of the television series happens Aug. 23. Rekow said that the show is popular because it appeals to being good to humanity.

"The Doctor never kills anybody," she said. "He's a big universal figure [yet] he makes a lot of mistakes. Even though he's an alien, he's not perfect."

Rekow said she encourages non-Whovians, non Dr. Who fans, to come out to the event because there are so many icons to make the show recognizable and it's an interesting atmosphere to be in.

"It'll give non-Who fans a chance to experience what it's really like," she said. Rekow said that she'll have Dr. Whorelated videos to show and costumes pieces, such as the Doctor's famous bow ties, for people to try on. She said she was going to "go all out" for the event, Saturday, Aug. 30, at the Beaches Branch library. All ages are welcome to attend.
