Fleabag star Phoebe odds-on to be first female Time Lord

PHOEBE Waller-Bridge is now odds-on favourite to become the first female Doctor Who.

The 31-year-old writer and star of BBC Three's hit comedy series Fleabag has been named by bookies William Hill as 4/7 favourite to become the 13th Time Lord.

My Family and Love Actually star Kris Marshall is next at 3/1.

Peter Capaldi announced in January that he was quitting as Doctor Who, saying he wanted a woman to take over - preferably 72-year-old Rising Damp star Frances de la Tour.

Rumours that Waller-Bridge might be in line were fuelled by the appointment of Chris Chibnall as show boss. Phoebe worked with him on ITV's Broadchurch.

This year is set to be busy for Phoebe. Fleabag is nominated for three Baftas and a second series is planned. She will also appear in the next Star Wars spin-off. Marshall is to leave BBC One's detective series Death In Paradise after three series.

Tilda Swinton, Maxine Peake and Olivia Colman have also been linked to the Time Lord's role. A William Hill spokesman said: "It looks like we will almost certainly have the first-ever female Doctor... and it could pave the way for a Jane Bond in the near future7
