FOOTBALL FANS ARE used to it. A new manager arrives and brings in his own talent - the club's name is the same, but everything else is changed. And so nerves are jangling for Doctor Who's new season where, as our exclusive cover reveals, even the Tardis is different.

When Saturday comes, Matt Smith will stop being the man trying to fill the biggest shoes on television and become the 11th Doctor, a character so huge that people measure their lives against him (I'm a Tom Baker man myself). I enjoyed a sneak preview of the new Doctor - the youngest ever - a few months back and, trust me, Matt is no Sylvester McCoy (and companion Karen Man is no Bonnie Langford!) Instead, Matt's so comfortable in the role that within minutes you've forgotten anyone came before him. Not bad for a lad who was set to be a professional footballer for Leicester City before injury intervened.
