BRIAN BLESSED denies that he is a front runner for the new Dr Who. So I think the BBC should concentrate on giving the job to a woman who should be "mature and a bit eccentric." A whole army of TV ladies spring to mind—Patricia Hayes, Maria Aitken, Anna Ford, Pamela Stephenson, Shirley Williams, Diana Dons, Esther Rantzen, Annie Walker, Jan Leeming, Angela Rippon.

My favourite for the job, however, is the Sally Array's Wonderful Catharine Bramwell-Booth, mature enough at 100 to smite all Dr Who's enemies in outer space with the charm of her tongue alone.
