TV spinoff books by Phillip Crawley

This month's sees a record number of new novels which are based on programs that have proved popular with the viewers.

What they all have in common is authenticity none are unofficial rip offs and low paging for the price you pay

Dr. Who and the seeds of doom. By Philip Hinchcliffe (Allan Wingate, £2.50). And up to date Dr. Who adventure, written by the programmes young producer. The Tom Baker-style Time Lord tackles the Krynoids, giant man-hunting weeds from outer space who threaten to exterminate humanity. Just the sort of violent and her thick science fiction the kids love but only 128 pages.

Dr. Who and the Dalek Invasion of Earth. By Terrance Dicks (Allen Wingate, £2.50) Written by the most prolific of the Doctor's authors, Dicks was a script editor for the series in its early days, and this story is a flashback to when Dr. Who was a white-haired and eccentric old man, helped by his own granddaughter. Here he is pitted against the series' most famous baddies, the Daleks, who have taken over in England and left it a wasteland underground fighters resisting: 142 pages.
