DOCTOR Who fans have until Sunday to visit a long-running exhibition in Cardiff Bay dedicated to the show.

The Doctor Who Exhibition, at the Red Dragon Centre, is set to close to make way for a new, bigger show in 2012.

But the city is set to lose out on thousands of pounds in tourism during the year-long gap between the two exhibitions, according to Graham Jones, who runs the current display.

The 71-year-old's attempts to keep the exhibition open during the Easter holidays were turned down by BBC Worldwide, which refused to extend his licence.

"It is damaging to the economy of Wales and the economy of Cardiff," he said.

"We thought that they would have respect and regard for their fans.

"It does seem that this decision has been made in a way that is not very compassionate towards Cardiff."

The grandfather added: "If you want to see wee kids crying then you ought to come down to the Red Dragon this Easter because they will come down here to an empty shell."

The Cardiff Bay exhibition has drawn more than half a million visitors over its five years in operation.

A BBC Worldwide spokesman said the Doctor Who Experience would open in Cardiff next year at a new site.

"We have consulted with the city council for the past two years regarding our plans and we are confident that the attraction's features, size and location will draw many more fans to the Welsh capital from across the UK," he said.
