MURRAY Gold has a monstrous invasion planned for Adelaide. The esteemed British composer is ready to unleash the music of Doctor Who for the latest Symphonic Spectacular.

"Watch out for Daleks, Cybermen and frightfully good classical musicians from the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra," Gold says.

"There'll be loads of monsters and surprises with some amazing audio visual effects and nostalgic footage as Doctor Who takes on the best and the worst the universe can throw at him.

"It's a thrilling evening out that fans around the world absolutely adore and we are delighted to bring it to Adelaide.

"Producer Paul Bullock has done an incredible job putting it all together and audiences are loving it." The Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison, will host the concert, which will feature music across Doctor Who history.

Gold says the new version of the Symphonic Spectacular will feature music from the Peter Capaldi era.

"So half the music in the concert has been composed in the last three months," he says.

"It's very exciting, the show with Peter Capaldi is a bit darker and that is reflected in the music." Gold has been composing music for Doctor Who for a decade now. "When I began writing the music, half the kids now watching the show weren't even born," he says.

"I compose about 40 minutes per episode which works out about 500 minutes per series. The National Orchestra of Wales plays all the music for the Doctor Who TV series and it is part of their season."
