TIME TO BE SPOOKED OUT

DOCTOR Who's "scariest ever" episode this weekend looks at what lies in the shadows and lives under your bed when you think you're alone.

Called Listen, it's been penned by show boss Steven Moffat, who also came up with the terrifying Weeping Angels.

In the suspense-filled episode, The Doc (Peter Capaldi, 56) investigates the age-old mystery over whether we are really ever truly alone, even when no-one else appears to be in the room.

And he raises the question of why every being in the universe has the same nightmare of someone or something lurking under their bed.

Shadow

The Time Lord asks: "You know when you talk to yourself? What if no-one is ever really alone? What if every single living being has a companion, a silent passenger, a shadow.

"What if the prickle on the back of your neck is the breath of something close behind you?"

Moffat, 52, admits the story will put the willies up some viewers.

He said: "It's quite creepy. "I'm easily scared. I did have the dream about getting out of bed and somebody grabbing my ankle."

And asked if Listen was scarier than the Weeping Angels in Blink, who were voted by Radio Times readers as more terrifying than the Daleks, he tells Doctor Who Magazine: "I can't tell. It's a fair old departure. Let's see."

Younger viewers will be ducking behind their sofas when the show goes out.

One fan posted a message saying: "Steven made us scared of blinking, now he will make us scared of going to sleep at night." Another wrote: "It sounds like a frightening one."

Listen airs on Saturday on BBC One at 7.30pm.
