IT'S not every day you peer over your garden fence to see Doctor Who emerging from his Tardis.
But neighbours of Chris Hoyle have grown used to such events. For the last eight years the 29-year-old physics teacher has been busy filming his own adventures of the nation's favourite Timelord.
He has shot five movies based on the classic series, which saw stars such as Tom Baker, Jon Pertwee and Peter Davison play The Doctor.
His last film premiered at the Quo Vadis bar in Leeds. The next one, to coincide with the show's 40th anniversary, will be shot in the city this summer. Chris, of Oakwood, said: I grew up watching Doctor Who and then got into it again when I was a student. I had a few ideas for some stories and was going to turn them into novels, but when they took the show off the air I thought I would start making my own films.
His first, called The Crystal Of Achillon, was shot in 1994 on a budget of a few hundred pounds while he was at university. As well as writing and directing, Chris played The Doctor and roped in fellow students for other parts. Since then the adventures have grown bigger and more sophisticated.
The last one, Masterplan, cost £1,000, ran for two hours and featured Daleks and Cybermen. Chris said: We filmed part of it at Brimham Rocks near Harrogate and in a derelict factory in Hebden Bridge.
Cardboard
We got some strange looks. People were a bit surprised to see Cybermen clambering around.
The biggest problem we had was underneath the railway arches in Leeds. This bloke from Railtrack turned up and said we were on their property.
Chris has just built a timber version of the Tardis. He said: The old one was made of cardboard and was getting a bit dog-eared.
And the prop is set to play a major role in his latest Doctor Who adventure, which has the working title The Schrodinger Effect.
Chris said: It should be ready in time for the anniversary next year.
