[edit]

He dispatched the Daleks in a battle to the death. Now the regenerated Doctor Who must face his other mortal foe, the Cybermen (Adam Sherwin writes).

They are the stars of a two-part episode due for broadcast next year in a new series of the sci-fi classic, which has been a ratings hit since its revival. Viewers, while terrified, could not help noticing in the past that the low-tech Cybermen appeared to be 70 per cent Bacofoil with a car lamp stuck on their helmets. They have been redesigned by the same experts who reinvented the Daleks and previously worked on films including Hellraiser II. Another old favourite returning for the new series is K-9, the Doctor's robotic, doggy companion.

In a Christmas special, aliens will invade the Earth and Rose will face down a trio of killer Santas.
