Tough task ahead for seventh Time lord

IF THOSE nasty little Daleks could laugh they could be chuckling with joy now.

The reason Is that things are not going well for their arch-enemy Dr. Who these days.

Next autumn a new actor takes ove the role of the time travelling lord. However, the announcement by the BBC that Scottish-born Sylvester McCoy is to be the new Dr. Who has been greeted with less than full enthusiasm by many fans.

This is a little unfair as the chap has not had a chance to prove himself in the role yet.

But the fans are nervious because some of the powers-that-be in the BBC are not happy with the way the popular Sci-Fi show has gone over the past few years.

So, if the new lad makes a mess of the role the order will be out: "Exterminate Dr. Who."

Just what the Daleks have been trying to do for years.

According to this month's edition of the fantasy magazine Starburst the show's problems began two years ago when the BBC postponed production of the programme for two years.

There were fears the show would be axed but after a big outcry in Britain by Dr. Who fans the programme was eventually brought back.

In recent years many of the episodes featuring Jim Davidson and Colin Baker as the Doctor lacked bite. In my humble opinion the Dr. Who stories starring Tom Baker in the title role had far more drama and tension.

Many fans feel the show has become too light hearted.

Behind the scenes there have been squabbles among the BBC writing and production teams about the direction the show has taken.

Colin Baker got the axe although he had only been in the Dr. Who role a short time.

Sylvester McCoy promises he'll make the Dr. Who role more like a Professor Bellamy or Magnus Pike of TV fame.

He is a virtual unknown in the acting world. Before he got his acting break he did the usual office jobs, he worked as a bouncer for the Rollling Stones (although he's only 5 ft. 3 ins.) and before that again he thought of becoming a priest.

Fans will be hoping he'll make a roaring success of the show and insure that the seventh Dr. Who won't be the last.
