ACTOR Peter Capaldi is leaving Doctor Who, he announced last night. He will bow out in the 2017 Christmas special after starring in the BBC One sci-fi hit for three series.

He declared on Radio 2: "It's been cosmic but it's time to move on." Glasgow-born Capaldi, 58, the 12th Doctor, will be seen in his final series starting in April.

Writer and series producer Steven Moffat, who is also quitting the show, hinted at more drama in the upcoming episodes.

He said: "Monsters of the universe, be on your guard - Capaldi's not done with you yet!"
