[edit]

Dr. Who, hero of the BBC's Saturday serial, is to lose his fellow travelers in time and space, Jacqueline Hill and William Russell, who play the parts of the schoolteachers Barbara and Ian. They have decided to leave the serial in June.

The scriptwriters' problem now is how to get them out of the box realistically. One suggestion is that they capture a Dalek spaceship and return to earth.

The serial, which began 15 months ago, has been one of the BBC's most successful. Both Miss Hill and Mr. Russell want to leave to do theatre work. "Dr. Who" is played by William Hartnell.
