Dr Who pair to meet in Brisbane time warp FORMER Dr Who, Jon Pertwee, above, took his last Tardis trip in 1976 but still enjoys playing time-lord in his fans' time-warp. Mr Pertwee is in Brisbane this weekend with fellow Dr Who star, Katy Manning, as guests of the Conquest '90 Science Fiction Convention being held at the Mayfair Crest Hotel. The trip is Mr Pertwee's first to an Australian science fiction convention and will also be the first public appearance he has made with Ms Manning since she left the long-running television show in 1975. "It's a long way to come for a science fiction convention but I'm the sort of person who will go anywhere at any time and I'm really looking forward to seeing Katy again," he said. Asked why he thought Dr Who was so popular, he said: "Science fiction always attracts a mad following, people often get very fanatical about it." After the Brisbane convention, Mr Pertwee will visit a Chicago convention before returning to England to star in the pantomime Alladin. A keen Dr Who fan, Stephen Rees, 19, flew from Melbourne to attend his eighth science fiction convention. "There's nothing else like Dr Who on TV, it's so different every time," he said. Mr Pertwee and Ms Manning will make presentations and sign autographs today and tomorrow at the Mayfair Crest, where almost every science fiction film ever made will be screened as part of the convention.
