[edit]

After defeating Michael Grade, his biggest enemy. Doctor Who is about to meet his other fearsome foes — the Daleks.

Mr Grade, BBC Television's former Director of Programmes, threatened to axe TV's longest-running serial. saying it was too violent and lacked humour. But just as the threat receded when Mr Grade quit the BBC to join Channel Four at the beginning of the year, up pop the Doctor's original foes, the Daleks.

They were seen in the Doctor's first adventure in 1963 and now they are back. spruced up with new gold and white livery —rather than the old. dull grey look — to challenge the Doctor and his new assistant Ace.

The Daleks "star" in "Remembrance of the Daleks", the first adventure in the next series in the autumn.

The trouble starts for the Doctor, played by Sylvester McCoy. and his assistant, Ace, played by Sophie Aldred. when they return in the Tardis to the school where he met his first companions in 1963 — and find the Daleks are waiting.

Terrorising

Sophie was seen in the final episode of the last series after taking over from Bonny Langford.

Production work on the. new series was going on in Hammersmith yesterday. with the Daleks terrorising residents in a school being used as the location. Among the guest artists in the opening adventure are Simon Williams and Pamela Salem.
