"Everyone needs a best friend," said actress Sheila White. "You need someone to gossip and giggle with, talk about your boyfriends to.

"My best friend is Adrienne Posta—we met when we did Round the Mulberry Bush together. Talking of boyfriends, I introduced one of hers to her—Hywel Bennett.

"Addy's great; she can be really funny and we have a lot of laughs together."

That cover pic of ours, by the way, was no put-up job. Sheila and Frazer Hines really are good friends.

"Oh I've known Frazer over six years," said Sheila. "We were at the Corona Stage School together.

"He's a really nice fellow. He's terribly good to his mum and brother, you know—they all live in this big house he bought in Chiswick. We've always kept in close touch, go out every few weeks.

"If Frazer takes you out, you know you're going to have a really good time; he's considerate, he looks after you.

"He's funny because he always wants to go out on the spur of the moment. Things happen like he rings up just as I've got my head in a basin, washing my hair. He says 'I fancy going to the pictures—I'll pick you up in twenty minutes !' It's really funny.

"Frazer's very kind and he's got such a nice personality. We went to Ascot a little while ago. I won three races and he didn't win anything." She giggled.

"Everyone kept calling him Jamie."

I asked Sheila what she thought was the most important quality for a friend to have. And for the first time since I've known her—three years—she looked deadly serious.

"Trust," she said. "I've got to be able to trust people—and that's something you don't seem to find much of.

"If I know I can tell someone something, absolutely anything, and they won't tell anybody else, that person is my friend."
