JODIE Whittaker made an explosive first appearance as Doctor Who in the show's Christmas special yesterday.
The unveiling of the first female Time Lord signalled the start of wholesale change on the BBC show.
Boss Steven Moffat and star Peter Capaldi exited after the episode Twice Upon a Time.
In Capaldi's final scene, he gave a speech as he paced around the Tardis before regenerating into the 13th Doctor, played by Jodie.
His advice to his next incarnation concluded: "Always try to be nice but never fail to be kind.
Oh and you mustn't tell anyone your name. No one would understand it anyway.
"Except children. Sometimes if their hearts are in the right place and the stars are too, children can hear your name. Laugh hard, run fast, be kind.
"Doctor - I let you go:'
Light streams poured from him and his eyes changed into those of Jodie.
The camera then panned to her astonished face as she looked around the Tardis and said: "Oh, brilliant:'
But her joy was short-lived as a series of explosions shook the Tardis and it lurched violently around.
In the final frames, she was hurled from the Tardis out into space and time followed with the words "to be continued".
