DAVID Roden was nervous, very nervous. He stood at the bar drinking, watching the time on the idle clock - waiting.
The 22-year-old writer was 'power dressed' to combat the onslaught that he was preparing to face. "They are going to rip me to shreds" were the words that were currently spinning around his head.
He took another gulp of lager and looked cautiously at the crowds that surrounded him. This was his first public appearance and he certainly had never predicted this.
product was seen by millions of BBC viewers on Friday in Children In Need, and on Saturday in Noel's House Party. The 12 minute 'strictly scripted' episode saw over 50 extras and a host of Eastenders characters, some made to look older and younger according to the particular year.
David had to work very closely with the Eastenders script writers and also with the producer of Dr Who since 1980, John Nathan Turner.
The episode, titled Dimensions In Time, is the first programme featuring Dr Who to be made in four years. And comes 30 years after the first Dr Who story was shown on television.
An extensive range of monsters were also brought back to life - "The whole project was immaculately organised," David said.
"It was like reliving your childhood. I used to watch Dr Who when I was young and it terrified me. "And to write Dr Who for Children In Need on its 30th anniversary was extremely exciting and a total privilege."
Episodes
Future work for David now includes writing two episodes of Eastenders, and he is also working on a book about an abused woman titled Killing Daddy.
David said: "I do not consider myself to be successful - but I am extremely lucky to have worked with Derek, the Pet Shop Boys. and now the cast of Engenders and the Dr Who actors.
"I am very proud."
The young writer from Burntwood put down the empty pint glass and made his way from the bar to the interview. They sat waiting for him, camera ready, questions ready...
