POLICE BOX TO RETURN

'Tardis' cop shop plan

By Graeme Wilson

Deputy Political Editor

TARDIS-style police boxes should be brought back to make it easier to contact cops, a report says.

The boxes would have a two-way video link to a control centre.

They could be put in shopping centres, hospitals and post offices while outdated police stations are closed, says the report by think-tank Policy Exchange. Author Prof Martin Innes said: "Most crime is reported by phone and many stations are old and increasingly expensive to maintain."

At least ten forces are in talks with the Post Office over the plan, which could cut costs and keep more cops on the beat.

The first police telephone box appeared in Glasgow in 1891, and by 1953 there were 685 in London. They were phased out after 1970 when cops began using radios. but found fame in TV's Doctor Who as the Tardis, used by Time Lords like current star Matt Smith.

It's Ducktor Who

THE Tardis has been home to quite a few tasty birds over the years in Doctor Who — but never like this.

The duck appears to be enjoying its new house —a replica of the Time Lord's police box.

The quirky feature at Bockett's Farm in Leather-head, Surrey, was built by a fan of the BBC TV series ... and is perfect for any Time Mallards.
