And Doctor Who's deadly foe has ditched the tin foil

THOSE of a nervous disposition had better not read on - the Cybermen are back, looking more scary than ever.

The giant silver extra-terrestrials were put on this Earth to scare the living daylights out of Doctor Who.

Now, after a 17-year absence, they are set to send fans of the BBC1 series scurrying back behind the sofa.

The Cybermen will do battle with the latest Doctor Who, David Tennant, and his assistant Rose, played by Billie Piper, in the new series.

Producer Phil Collinson said: "I hope that the evil silver giants will terrify a new generation of viewers as they confront the tenth Time Lord."

The creatures first appeared as the Doctor's adversaries in 1966. Although they have received various subtle makeovers over the years the new Cybermen look more robust, having ditched their flimsy tin-foil suits in favour of body armour.

The new two-part episode featuring the extraterrestrials is being filmed in Cardiff.

A Doctor Who Christmas special will introduce David Tennant in the role played by Christopher Eccleston in the last series.
