[edit]

Doctor Who off-shoot The Sarah Jane Adventures has been recommissioned for a second series.

The new run of the BBC Wales made show sees the return of some familiar alien enemies from Doctor Who as the Slitheen are back and out for revenge.

Coming to children's strand CBBC at the end of this month, it again stars one of Dr Who's most famous former companions - investigative journalist Sarah Jane Smith.

The series is from the same people behind Doctor Who including multi-award winning Swansea-born writer Russell T Davies.

He said, "This is a wonderful opportunity to use all our Doctor Who resources here in Cardiff for the making of a brand new drama for CBBC.

"We hope brand new viewers join us for ten full-blooded episodes of excitement and danger, headlined by a truly excellent cast."

Sarah Jane Smith is played by Elisabeth Sladen who also starred as Sarah Jane in the '70s Doctor Who series as a companion to the third and fourth Doctors.

"It's great to be back enjoying Sarah Jane with some fantastic new adventures," said Elisabeth. "There's still so much more to find out about her after all these years.

"I hope that viewers have as much fun watching the series as I did making it."

The new 10-part series features five stories each told over two episodes.

Meanwhile, Doctor Who star David Tennant's future in the Tardis looks in doubt as it was announced the next series of the sci-fi show will be postponed until 2010.

The BBC revealed earlier this week that the hit show will return for a new series - the fifth since it was revived in 2005 - but refused to confirm that Tennant will remain in the leading role.

Currently filming the fourth series, the Scottish star has been signed up for three specials in 2009, which will be in lieu of a full series. But the programme makers said they cannot comment on series five yet.

The fifth series has been postponed so that Casanova star Tennant can take to the stage to play Hamlet with the Royal Shakespeare Company from July to November next year.
