New returns for old favourites

THE DOCTOR & DALEKS

Are we going to get an episode of Doctor Who over the Christmas period? And will there also be a new series?

Terry Houghton via email

Don't worry — the Time Lord (as played by Jodie Whittaker) will be back for a festive episode either in late 2020 or at the start of 2021. Speaking about that story, Revolution of the Daleks (which has already been filmed), show boss Chris Chibnall said recently: "Rest assured, the Doctor and her friends will be back for a one-off extended special around Christmas and New Year. There will be Daleks. There will be exterminations. Thrills, laughter, tears. The usual..."

At the time of writing, it was also the intention on the part of the BBC to begin filming on the next series of Doctor Who before the end of 2020, with a source commenting to RadioTimes.com: "We're still hoping for a 2021 airdate, but this may depend on other circumstances."

Whittaker has already signed on for the next run of episodes, though rumours are currently circulating that her Tardis team may be in for a bit of a shake-up. Tosin Cole, for instance, who plays Ryan, is set to headline new US legal drama 61st Street, while Bradley Walsh (aka Graham) has been linked to a remake of The Darling Buds of May.
