WMHT (Channel 17) aired its monthly call-in program Wednesday night.

According to William Haley, general manager, about 30 people called in, less than usual, he said, because of the competing baseball game.

The panel was Haley, director of television broadcasting Ellis Bromberg, director of production Tom Merklinger and board member John Keenan. Callers were concerned with the tardiness of the program guide in Capital Region magazine, programming for both WMHT and WMHX (Channel 45), and the workings of WMHT's reaction line.

WMHX has been off air since the storm because there is no emergency back-up system. Haley said the cost of such a system would be about $50,000, and that station officials are looking into future purchase of one. WMHX is not expected to be back on air until some time next week, Haley said Thursday.

Haley also announced on the air that the station was polling its members about "Dr. Who," a popular British science fiction series that has gained a cult following. "Dr. Who" was moved from WMHT to WMHX when the latter went on the air last month, displeasing some members, who give money, Haley said, only because they like the program. Some viewers have cable systems that haven't added WMHX and other viewers don't have cable but can't get WMHX's signal.

Haley said the station will reevaluate the time slot of "Dr. Who" time slot after the survey is completed.
