Want to write your own Dr Who adventure? Enter our competition and see your story in print in Young Times


How to enter Read the start of the Dr Who story on the right. Then tell us what happens next in 250 words. You should continue the story in the same style, addressing the reader as "you". You don't need to finish the story, just tell us the next part. Make sure there's plenty of action and vivid description, but the plot is totally up to you!

Send us your story When you've finished your story, you can e-mail it to youngtimes@thetimes.co.uk or post it to Dr Who competition, Young Times, The Times, 1 Pennington Street, London E98 1TT, including your name and age. Your entry must be received by Friday, May 14. To enter you must be 16 or under. The winner will also receive a Dr Who goodie bag filled with four new Dr Who books, a family pass to the Dr Who exhibition in Cardiff and a Dr Who sonic screwdriver.

You knew you shouldn't have wandered away from your school party. The gas refinery is huge, cavernous and con-fusing. And now you, and your new friends Amy and the Doctor, are trapped inside a chamber. It's like a prison cell. The only source of light is a bare bulb in a recess in the ceiling. It's cold and damp and you start shivering.

"Look," you shout, pointing at the water. It's starting to slosh about as if disturbed from underneath. "What's that all about?" The Doctor and Amy move closer to the foaming water. Suddenly a seething mass of legs and claws erupt from the depths as hundreds of crabs scramble up the slope, surging towards you.

"Incredible!" gasps the Doctor. "Something I thought I'd never see!" "What? Crabs?" "Not just crabs - infant Macra!" The Doctor claps his hands, eyes gleaming with excitement. "Crustaceous alien life form from another galaxy," he ex-plains. "They can come in many forms, but seeing them in their infant state is very rare!" You eye the Macra suspiciously as they crawl out of the water. There must be hundreds of them, snipping and snapping with their little claws. They look terrifying.

"Are they dangerous?" "Very!" Amy yelps as a Macra snaps at her feet. She scurries back towards the door and the Doctor hurriedly sonics the lock.

"Hurry!" you yell.

"Ten more seconds!" yells the Doctor.

"They'll be on us in five!" The crabs advance up the slope in a wild, clattering horde...
