COULD it be Dr Who with his arm round a girl? Whatever will they say in Gallifrey?

But despite his obvious happiness about appearing with space glamour girl Amanda Duval, the doctor was actually doing yet another of his good deeds — attending the prizegiving for a national student design competition sponsored by the Pye electrical company.

Its aim was to find the portable entertainment system of tomorrow, and the winner was 18-year-old Sam Barlow of Auchencairn, Castle Douglas, Scotland, who designed a three-piece portable CD player and television with a revolutionary viewing visor.
