IT'S SARAH JANE'S last, stand. Elisabeth Sladen who plays Dr. Who's assistant is leaving at the end of the current story, "The Hand of Fear."

Elisabeth, who has helped Tom Baker tackle Daleks and monsters for three years, won't even be able to watch herself go.

She is appearing in "Saturday, Sunday, Monday" at the Liverpool Playhouse, and has a show that cuts across the 6 p.m. slot for DR. WHO (BBC-1)

Elisabeth said: "The best thing I ever did was joining Dr. Who: leaving it was the next best thing. I loved it, but I couldn't stay for ever."

Enjoy

"I liked playing Sarah Jane because I was waiting with people I liked and was recognised in public.

"I don't believe the actress who says she doesn't enjoy that."

Sarah Jane has a touching goodbye scene when Dr. Who is summoned by the Time Lords and sets off alone in his time machine Tardis for the planet Gallifrey.

He will spend the next four weeks there without an assistant. It will be his first visit home since his second incarnation.
