KAREN PICKS PAIR

KAREN Gillan would like Gillian Anderson or Helen Mirren to be the first female Doctor Who.

The former companion said she would pick either of the stars to play the Time Lord during a debate about the BBC sci-fi show. She told fans at the Dallas Comic Con: "Gillian Anderson would make the perfect Time Lord, as would Helen Mirren.

"For example, you watch Helen in RED and she is running about with a machine gun so a sonic screwdriver would be nothing for her to handle."

Inverness actress, 27, made her comments in the wake of show runner Steven Moffat's announcement that the next Doctor could be a woman.

And Karen also hinted that the door was also open for her to return as Amy Pond, possibly by joining fellow Scot and current Doctor Who Peter Capaldi.

She said; "There is always that opportunity where Steven makes that call for me and Peter to share some screen time.

"That would be so cool if that ever happened. The two of us bantering back and forth in the Tardis would be a lot of fun.

"I would do it immediately.

"I feel like maybe there is always an opening so long as Steven is the showrunner because he created Amy. I have said in the past I wouldn't return for any cameos. I wanted Amy's departure to have the same impact years later. I wanted people to feel sad whenever they watched it."

Karen also said Matt Smith was her favourite Tardis pilot: "I genuinely loved his performance.

"He captured the genuine alien side of the Doctor so naturally. He is really silly and comedic.

"The best experience of my life as an actress so far has been on Doctor Who."
