[edit]

Sam Webb, aged five, from Stourbridge, meets a dalek at the Merry Hill centre after former Dr Who, Jon Pertwee, turned on the Christmas lights.

The dalek was part of the festive decorations switched on by the actor at the Brierley Hills shopping complex.

But Mr Pertwee disappointed his fans by carrying out the ceremony 10 minutes ahend of schedule and the dashing off.

Mr Pertwee is playing Marley's ghost in a production of Scrooge which opens at Birmingham's Alexandre Theatre next week and a Merry Hill spokeswoman said a last-minute rehearsal called for yesterday, evening hod meant he could only pay a flying visit but they were delighted he had spared the time.
