Cliff's jeans up for grabs
A PAIR of Cliff Richard's jeans and a Manchester United football autographed by the team are among celebrity items being auctioned on Thursday in the Strand Hotel, Portstewart, from 7.30
Other items include boots Charlie Nash wore for the European Boxing Championship and shorts he donned for his 13th fight. A pair of Dr. Who's socks will also go under the hammer, as will signed copies of Ed Stewart's "Fun book" and Michael Parkinson's biography of George Best.
The idea of such an auction was thought up by Mrs. Patricia (Bubbles) Gillespie, chairman of the Coleraine branch of the National Association for the Welfare of Children in Hospital (NAWCH). Proceeds will go to provide toys to the playroom of Coleraine Hospital and transport for parents of hospitalised children.
The auction will also include antique and modern porcelain, local artists' collections, jewellery, silver and a selection of stamps.
Among the rare items are two 1840 Penny Black stamps; an 1840 2d Blue; an Australian 5s stamp; a beaded and sequined Persian bed roll; a copper coach horn.
