YOU have to hand it to the BBC. Not even the Bourbons could match the Corporation for such awe-inspiring arrogance.
BBC chairman Mr. Stuart Young has already suggested one way in which we could be further taxed on behalf of his bloated empire: he wants us to pay a separate licence for our car radios.
Now Mr. Alasdair Milne, the director general, has another demand: the Government should force us to buy a licence for every television set we own-
These wheezes are all to do with the Beeb's campaign to force a rise in the price of the current colour licence fee, from £46 to £65.
And so, most people will suspect, is the inexplicable decision to suspend the popular series, Dr. Who.
The series, enjoyed by millions of viewers, is said to be too expensive to produce, given available funds.
This kind of tactic is familiar, of course. It is used by Health Service bureaucrats, for example, who immediately talk of ward, or hospital, closures whenever the Government makes any attempt to hold down spending in the vastly overmanned Health Service.
The BBC's arrogance and spending are out of control.
Another reason why the Government must not fill Aunty's begging bowl.
