Series 4 of Doctor Who features crowds of hideous fat, but not evil, monsters called Adipose. They were created by The Mill with the aid of crowd-replication software Massive. The weird little creatures huddle around in large groups, so The Mill opted to use Massive, usually the preserve of feature films and high-end commercials, for the crowd scenes. Massive creator Stephen Regelous, who's a big Doctor Who fan, flew half way around the world, from New Zealand, to assist The Mill for three-weeks. "I jumped at the opportunity to be involved," he says, and even though "the creatures look quite similar, we were able to create a lot of subtle variation in behaviour, motion, proportions and look."
