Fans of Dr Who staged a protest march in Southampton after the BBC said that daleks would not appear in the new series. As Christopher Ecclestone, 40, prepared to become the new Doctor, the corporation said that talks with the estate of Terry Nation, creator of the aliens, had broken down.
