[edit]

THE man who set the Daleks on their trail of intergalactic extermination has died aged 84.

Former BBC designer Raymond Cusick will be remembered for devising the race of mutants which became Dr Who's arch nemisis.

The robot villains, created by writer Terry Nation, were designed by Mr Cusick based on a short description in one of the show's scripts. They were an instant hit, scaring generations of children.

His daughter Claire Heawood last night said that he had been suffering from an illness and died in his sleep on Thursday.

Mr Cusick, from Horsham, West Sussex, had two daughters and seven grandchildren.
