Doctor Who: Series 8 BBC ★★★★ (out of five)
Here I was hoping that over time I would grow to love Jenna Coleman's portrayal of Doctor Who's latest companion, Clara Oswald.
After all, her predecessors Rose Tyler (Billie Piper), Donna Noble (Catherine Tate), Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman) and Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) all brought unique qualities to the role.
Sadly, though, after 12 episodes of the most current season — which saw the introduction of Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor — Clara failed to live up to companion status.
Perhaps that was because the chemistry between Coleman and Capaldi, while sometime hilarious, was tepid at best.
Thankfully Capaldi's portrayal of the Doctor carried the season, even if he too had a slow start.
If there is a Whovian fan in your family, this box set is a must as it's packed with special features, including a dozen narrated behind-the-scenes episodes, four Doctor Who exclusives as well as the London Post-Premiere Q&A and commentary on Into the Dalek, Robot of Sherwood, The Caretaker and Kill the Moon.
