Is the British royal family composed of diehard science-fiction geeks? We may never know for certain, but the Windsors do seem to appreciate the work of Russell T Davies: on Thursday Queen Elizabeth II appointed Mr. Davies, the executive producer of the sci-fi television series "Doctor Who," to the Order of the British Empire, the BBC reported, Mr. Davies, who resuscitated the long-dormant "Doctor Who" to great success in 2005, received his O.B.E. from the Prince of Wales at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace. In October Mr. Davies said at a literature festival in Cheltenham, England, that the prince had turned down an invitation to appear on "Doctor Who," and called him "a miserable swine." Mr. Davies has announced that he is stepping down from the television series in 2009.
