[edit]

Doctor Who was conceived in 1963, by BBC head of drama Sydney Newman, as a children's drama that would be partly educational. He said he wanted 'no bug-eyed monsters'.

But audience reaction to the Daleks soon changed his mind. Whenever ratings began to dip, an episode featuring Daleks would be shown.

At its peak, Doctor Who attracted a worldwide audience of 110 million.

As a Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey, the Doctor has two hearts and a body temperature of 60°F.
