Doctor Who to appear during KERA benefit weekend

DALLAS — British actor Jon Pertwee, also known as Doctor Who, will host a "Whovian Weekend" Nov. 13-15 to benefit KERA, which airs "Doctor Who" at 10 p.m. Saturdays, the station recently announced.
Pertwee, the third of five actors to portray the lead character in the long-running British science fiction series, will appear at a private reception Nov. 13, then will speak at the official Doctor Who tour exhibit Saturday and Sunday at the Infomart. He will also appear live on KERA that night when Channel 13 presents a "Doctor Who" double-feature.
The reception and buffet, to be held at the Embassy Suites Hotel at Market Center, includes dinner and conversation with Pertwee; a package of Doctor Who memorabilia, including an autographed photo of the doctor; and a Doctor Who costume competition, with the winner and Pertwee taking a tour of Dallas in the Who-mobile, Bessie.
Admission to the reception is $60. Advance ticket holders will be admitted at 7 p.m., while those purchasing tickets at tne door can meet Pertwee beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Nov. 14 and 15, Pertwee will host the Doctor Who tour at the Infomart, in conjunction with the "Finer Things in Life" weekend. The exhibit, housed in a 48-foot trailer specially designed for the tour, features the series' famous monsters, villains and hardware, including the TARDIS that transports the doctor through time and space. Admission to the exhibit, which will be open from 10 a. m. to 6 p.m. both days, is $8.
KERA's Nov. 14 "Doctor Who" double-bill featuring Pertwee live begins at 8 p.m. with "The Five Doctors Special," an adventure starring Pertwee and the other actors who have played the doctor in his five incarnations. Then at 10 p.m., "The Curse of the Peladon" pits Who against an evil planet that is attempting to undermine the Galactic Federation.
