HORRIFIED Dr Who fans blanched a campaign yesterday - to stop him having a sex life.

The 700-year-old Time Lord - played by actor Sylvester McCoy - could be in for a raunchy time if the BBC sells off the rights of the hit TV show to a private producer. But the 1,200-strong Dr Who Society doesn't want life getting tacky in the TARDIS.

At their annual convention in Coventry yesterday. London lawyer Andrew Beech, 31, said: "Followers would throw up their hands in horror at the idea of the Doctor indulging in any hanky-pantry.

The doctor is meant be an alien who is above sexual urges."

Actor John Pertwee, who played the Doctor from 1970 to 1975, said last night "I think it would be a mistake to introduce sex.

"Doctor Who is several hundred years old."

A BBC spokesman said: "The future of Dr Who is likely to be as an independent production. A final decision will not be made until next year."
