[edit]

Ever since Doctor Who ended its 26-year run in 1989, rabid fans of the show have longed for the good alien-fighting doctor's return. A made-for-TV movie flopped in 1996, but now the BBC is remaking the sci-fi classic, with Christopher Eccleston (Gone in Sixty Seconds) in the title role and former British pop star Billie Piper as his travel companion.

Like the original, this version (premiering on CBC, April 5) follows the space travellers as they try to save Earth from alien invasion. In the season opener, the duo faces off against deadly department store mannequins. Cheesy? Absolutely. But who'd want it any other way?
