DR WHO star Colin Baker angrily ended his space travels yesterday.
He resigned from his starring role, after BBC chiefs warned that they were preparing to replace him during the next series.
They had decided that the famous Time Lord needed a new face and were only ready to offer 41-year-old Baker four episodes in the new series to be filmed next spring.
The outraged star, who rose to fame in TV's The Brothers, chose to resign immediately. His agent Barry Burnett said last night. 'Colin is sorry and disappointed to be leaving a part he loved.'
The six-week period it would take to film the four episodes at the end of March is a vital time for casting major stage and television shows. and the actor did not want to miss the opportunity to find fresh work.
Baker, the sixth Dr Who, joined the cult sci-fi series in 1983.
