A GIRLIE magazine published full frontal pictures claiming to be of former Dr. Who girl Lalla Ward, a judge was told yesterday.

But the photographs were not of her body, although they were made to appear so.

Lalla, went to the High Court in London and received "substantial damages" in settlement of her libel action against associates of Club International and film producer James Clarke.

Lalla, aged 31, is the estranged wife of actor Tom Baker, a former Dr. Who, whom she met when playing his assistant Romana in the BBC series.

As Lalla, daughter of the Peer, was said to have always refused acting parts requiring full frontal nudity.

Her counsel, Mr. David Eady, Q.C., told Mr. Justice Mars-Jones that she had appeared regularly on television programmes mainly intended for children or family viewing.

In February, 1981, she was "horrified" to discover that Club international had a cover photograph of her with the words "our latest celebrity nude sensation!"

Inside was a feature, consisting of 16 photographs accompanied by a series of captions some of which purported to portray her in a lesbian embrace. There were also various shots of full frontal nudity.

"In fact," said Mr. Eady, "these photographs were not of her body at all."

In 1973 Miss Ward was in a film, produced by Mr. Clarke, called Get It Made. There was one scene in which Lalla appeared topless with a male actor.

Subsequently, interposed scenes in that film involving the body of another actress and re-issued it under the title Sweet Virgin.

As Mr. Eady said it was from this version of the film that stills were supplied by Mr. Clarke to the publishers of Club International.

Paul Raymond Publications, its editor, Roger Cook and Clarke now accepted that the photographs were misleading said Mr. Desmond Brown.
