HE took on the Daleks, the Cybermen and the Master. Now Dr Who has defeated his greatest foe — Britain's biggest police force.
The BBC has won a six-year battle with Scotland Yard over the trademark rights of Dr Who's famous Tardis police box, it was revealed yesterday.
Patent Office chiefs decided the old-style boxes are now "more associated with the TV series" than with the Metropolitan Police.
The ruling allows the BBC to use the Tardis image on Dr Who merchandise, including computer games, pencil cases, books and clothing. A Scotland Yard spokesman said yesterday: "We're disappointed but philosophical."
