DR WHO'S assistant, Katy Manning, has fled secretly to Australia with her twin children — to escape the London press.
The actress who became an overnight sensation in England as Jon Pertwee's pretty assistant in the Doctor Who TV series had reporters following her constantly in London.
Fleet Street photographers were on hand when she and her actor-boyfriend Dean Harris had dinner at the Savoy Hotel.
"They followed us everywhere, it was almost like keeping a diary," she says.
When she moved to Australia with plans to stay indefinitely with her three-year-old twins Jonathan and Georgina she did it in secrecy because she didn't want the press to know.
"I'm hoping Dean will be able to join us later," she said before flying back to London for a brief stay until January..
'Dean would love it in Australia. We talk on the phone and write to !ach other constantly but our relationship is strained at the moment. I was touring extensively with a play before I left England and Dean was it home looking after the children.
"On one occasion when called him he mentioned that some of our friends had taken him to a meeting.
"When I came home from touring I got quite a shock. Dean had become very involved with a religious cult. I wasn't happy about it.
"That's when I decided to come here," Katy
In Australia she caught up with Liza Minelli, her friend and godmother to her children,
"Liza encouraged me to come to Australia because she'd been here before and loved it.
"I thought I would be lonely but I've been made so welcome."
Katy's career started in England in the series Man At The Top which led to her role in Dr Who.
