DR WHO will he on trial when the show returns to TV In the autumn.

BBC-1 controller Michael Grade warned yesterday that the show mast vastly improve — or face the axe.

Grade decided to kill off the time lord last year, then relented after an outcry front fans.

But he plans to watch the new series, which will again star Colin Baker as the dotter, "very closely."

He stressed: "I was unhappy with the last series for several reasons.

"I felt the show, was going backwards, not forwards.

"These days we have people like Spielberg in the cinema, and Dr Who hasn't moved with the times"
