[edit]

ALL things must pass, even if you are a much adored intergalactic Timelord.

And for David Tennant time runs out in spectacular style in a star-studded, two-part Doctor Who Christmas special.

But before his demise he is reunited with faithful assistant Rose, whose sizzling bond with him earned actress Billie Piper millions of fans.

Their final scenes were filmed in the Brandon estate in south London, where Rose used to live.

Producers are keeping tightlipped about the plot, but insiders last night claimed the episode will include scenes set in her alternate world, with the "human doctor".

Dressed in his signature suit and coat, Tennant was seen leaning against a brick wall before he painfully made his way through a flurry of snow in his final moments before he regenerates into the 11th Dr Who, to be played by Matt Smith.

Tennant and Piper were also observed sharing a few jokes off-set during a break in filming.

The Christmas special marks the departure of writer and producer Russell T Davies, who resurrected the series in 2005. He ends his reign in style with some of Britain's best homegrown talent playing bit parts in the finale.

Fans will see Claire Bloom appearing in a cameo as the Doctor's mother, comedienne Catherine Tate, who already appears as his occasional companion Donna Noble and veteran actor Bernard Cribbins, as her grandfather. Also lined up are June Whitfield, Hi-de-Hi! actor

Barry Howard and Karl Collins, who plays Danny Glaze in The Bill.

Last night Sebastian Brook, editor of fansite, drwho-online.co.uk said: "David has taken fans on the most amazing adventures and he will be a hard act to follow.

"But I think fans will be pleased with Matt Smith. The decision to choose him marks an exciting new direction."
