THE new Dr Who will not be a woman after all.

A BBC spokesman dashed feminist hopes yesterday when he revealed that actresses are not in the running to replace Colin Baker as the time traveler.

He said: 'Since Bonnie Langford is contracted to play the doctor's assistant for another series the replacement will be male.

"The feeling is that if we had a female Doctor Who we would want a male assistant."

But there is one woman definitely lined up to join the programme —Dynasty star Kate O'Mara.

Villain

She is returning to the series as an exotic space villain, The Rani, in a four-parter to be filmed in May.

Kate, who plays Joan Collin's scheming authoress Sister Caress Morell in the TV soap, was in Doctor Who two years ago.

Her agent, Michael Ladkin, said yesterday: "Kate is still waiting to hear if she's wanted for another series of Dynasty.

"She certainly doesn't see it as a come-down to be going back into Doctor Who -- she's delighted to have been asked."
