FOUR early episodes of Dr Who have materialised in the cellar of a Hong Kong television station.
The discovery, of all four parts of the Tomb of the Cybermen story, has delighted Dr Who fans who rate the 1968 Patrick Troughton adventure as one of the best.
The find came to light when the Hong Kong station shipped a crate of old BBC programmes back to Britain after their contractual broadcasting rights expired. The BBC, which had asked for the episodes back eight years ago, had given them up for lost.
The programmes are the first to reappear for three years. Hundreds of episodes were lost when master copies were wiped when colour broadcasting began.
Videos of The Tomb of the Cybermen, made in black and white, will now be released in May, joining the existing 33 episodes which have made Dr Who into the BBC's best selling video series.
