DR WHO comes out of his 18-month "time warp" next month-on the radio.
Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant, who plays the Doctor's assistant, Peri, should have been recording for the next series of Dr Who on television. But the series - due to go out this autumn - was scrapped last year by BBC1's new controller Michael Grade.
The decision caused an uproar and Bill Cotton, managing director of BBC Television, later gave a promise that Dr Who would be back on the screen in autmn next year.
In the meantime the doctor and Peri will be in a special story on Radio 4.
The short series of six, 10-minute episodes, specially commissioned from one of the original scriptwriters, Erie Saward, starts on July 25.
A BBC radio spokesman said yesterday: "We're not giving away details of the plot except that it is set in the world of high technology on a huge spaceship."
