The fictional world of Doctor Who, the Time Lord who travels through time and space in his old-fashioned police call box, will touch down in Springfield Friday and Saturday at WGBY TV-Channel 57's studio, 44 Hampden St.
"Doctor Who Tour and Celebration" follows last year's successful visit to Springfield. Participants will get a chance to tour a large van with various space creatures and Doctor Who memorabilia during on Friday from 3 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 8 p.m.
"Whovians" will be able to enter the Tardis, Dr. Who's phone box/space machine, and use the ship's mock control panel. Participants will then enter into an illusion of space to meet. Dalek, Cyberman, K-9 and others.
Documentary-style videos about the tour and the series will be run throughout the show.
"Inside the truck, you're entering into the land of Doctor Who," Channel 57 spokeswoman Sarah Cothran said. "It's a 48-foot trailer and it's totally psychedelic. The entrance and exit to the trailer are large English phone booths."
Special guests will be two of the doctor's television companions: Sarah Sutton, who played Nyssa and Janet Fielding, who played Tegan. They will speak during both shows and will be available for autographs.
Fielding has been with the series through four Doctor Who characters — Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy. Six British actors have portrayed Doctor Who, who from time to time undergoes evolutionary changes to his character.
"Doctor Who Tour and Celebration" was organized by Lionheart Television International — the BC in America.
The eccentric doctor's odyssey began in 1977 in the United States and is the longest-running science fiction show in television history.
It is seen in over 180 PBS stations in the United States including Channel 57 and has a worldwide audience of over 110 million.
Tickets to the tour cost $10 for adults and $7.50 for children under 12. To purchase tickets in advance, contact Channel 57, 44 Hampden St., Springfield, MA 01103. Tickets will also be available at the door. All proceeds will support Channel 57's programming service.
